FOUND BIRDS
Scenario 1 - FOUND IBR REGISTERED BIRDS
Usually people that have taken the time and made the effort to register their bird also report it's loss. If one of these birds are found, then the keeper is contacted straight away so that they can arrange to collect the bird at their / the finders earliest convenience. If the keeper cannot be contacted for whatever reason we find the nearest falconer that can collect the bird and look after it until such time that the keeper can be contacted. This service is included in the registration fee.
Scenario 2 - FOUND IBR RINGED BUT NOT REGISTERED BIRDS
A bird is found and is wearing an IBR ring, the keeper is contacted and we are informed that the bird has changed hands (therefore it is NOT registered). We have two possibilities here; the first is that the last known keeper has the details of the new keeper in which case they are contacted. At this point the new keeper is asked to register the bird and make a donation to the VET FUND. After all, if it wasn’t for us they wouldn’t have got the bird back. The second possibility is that the old keeper has no idea who they sold it to. If this is the case then a falconer is found that can look after the bird. If the bird needs veterinary treatment this is what the VET FUND is used for. The birds details are taken and are put on the Website, the details also appear in the Falconers Magazine. At this point the keeper is unknown so we ask local falconers if they know of someone that has lost a bird. Other than that, all we can do is wait for the bird to be reported lost. A point to remember here is that the longer you take to report the loss the longer the bird could be being looked after by someone at their expense. If you were to lodge your birds in the same manner as with cats and dogs the cost varies between £5 and £10 per day.
Scenario 3 - FOUND NON IBR RINGED BIRDS
These are a little more difficult and time consuming to trace if they have not been reported as lost. If the bird is wearing a DOE ring then they will have a record of the last known keeper, a point to remember here is that from October 2008 the DOE no longer issue rings ....
