PROMOTING RESPONSIBILITY. The Professional, Responsive, Proactive Service

Whether or not you are clear about current legislation, it is common sense to ring your bird with a ring that is traceable back to you. The IBR offers a registration scheme whereby ring data is stored against a keeper's details. When you register your bird with the IBR, we issue you with a unique split ring for it (unless it is already wearing an IBR closed breeder’s ring). This ring has a unique number and a national telephone number on it. The ring number is logged on a database against the keeper's details and a Registration Document is issued identifying you as the keeper.
One thing to remember is that just because it is wearing an IBR ring does NOT mean that the bird is registered, just that the breeder had the forethought to use a recognisable, traceable ring. In order for the bird to be registered you must have the supportive paperwork in YOUR name.

SEEN BIRDS A bird is seen by a member of the public. They either contact us directly or via the RSPCA or Police (our telephone number is a primary contact number for them). We then check the database for lost bird reports in that area. If there are no reports we find the nearest available falconer (we have over 14,000 contacts) and ask for their assistance in catching the bird. If a bird has been reported lost then the keeper is informed or if we can’t get hold of the keeper, the nearest falconer. Usually several calls are made in this scenario until a falconer can be contacted that has got the time to go out and try to catch it.

LOST BIRDS If you find yourself in the unfortunate position of losing a bird, please let us know. We get phone calls from members of the public all the time and in some cases the bird is found whilst the keeper is looking for it. The bird does not have to be registered with us for you to report it lost. All of your details and your birds details are taken and entered on the database. If the bird is IBR registered it will appear on the lost list on the Website, this alerts other falconers in the area that there is an errant bird out there, if it is NOT IBR registered then it will NOT go on the Website. If the bird is not registered, you will be offered the chance to register it, there and then (£10 / 3 years), or if it is reunited with you via the IBR at a later date you will be expected to register it and make a donation to the VET FUND If you have no intention of registering, it if you get it back via the IBR, then DON’T PHONE US. Over the years WE have reunited many birds with their keepers without even as much as a thank you. We know who they are and so will others.
